Way worse than the 90’s. I remember the lake down 7′ from normal pool in spring in some years. Seeing this that wasn’t that bad. Both ways do not seem great for hatching success.

So what’s the thought as to when the flooding will crest? Barring rain hopefully.

The cabin we rent is close has the water to the floor now.

We’ll be up there also having not been fishing other than early season and some summer fishing from the 3rd to the 6th.

As always we will be looking for those mythical crappies and would love to get into some perch. But hey, anything on the end of the line works for us!

    Update:
Called the DNR and they will be sending new ones free of charge.

If you go to a licencing center they we get you a replacement set mailed out for $11.

The DNR is aware of the issue and says it happens occasionally.

So if this happens to you contact the DNR first.

    Thank you for your help!!!!

Also note that the bottom of the sticker, the red part , is still attached. I still have the clear part somewhat attached to the other side.

The DNR went to this 2 piece system at some point but it seems of a lower quality than the old stickers were

Yes, I always make sure the surface is clean and warm.

I was on Kab this morning on the main lake in horrible wind/waves and the water must have blasted them off

We have been fishing the west end usually one week either side of Memorial Day. We almost exclusively fish shallow water with jigs or Lindy’s or split shot hook combos with live bait. Colors of the jigs are all over the place but white/pink has been doing well along with blue/chart clown. White, pink, black are all good but blue too, I’ve even done well on purple.

I can’t believe there’s enough fishing pressure to cause the problem on lakes of this size. There is just too much water.

I’m going with the too many bigger fish theory also. I’ve seen it more on Kab than on Rainy. According to the DNR reports the perch have really taken over on Kab.

Always try to stay in the center of the channel. I hit a rock in the channel but near the edge.

One more spot would be the Bait and Bite just down the road from the Gateway

We just got back yesterday from Kab and the west end. I can say this was one of the best years ever.
We limited out for 7 guys mostly saugers but lots of walleye too. No real pattern other than shallower than 10′. Mostly jig and a minnow, usually shinner but rainbows and flatheads worked well. Leeches also worked when we ran out of minnows. Jigs were white mostly or blue or a combo of those but also gold, black, pink, purple/white. I caught then on plain hooks and a split shot, steel blue or red, painted blue and pink. I caught my first walleye ever on a stick bait by casting to wind blown points in 2′ of water to about 9′ while fishing for northerns. Our boat limited out on northers just casting on Sat. You’ll find a lot of smallish fish with bigger ones mixed in. All smallies were released.
Front of the rock pile in tom cod will produce at dusk. If you play the wind on the lake anywhere that bait fish are pushed to you’ll do well, just anchor there. With all the reports of deep fish I think a lot of people missed out an a great shallow water bite. I’m not a great fisherman but I do okay here.

BTW, the lake is almost full and heading to flood stage again. There is a lot of water heading there. The creeks are running full on 53. The lake rose at least 1.5′ in 9 days.

You might want to check out a powder coating place. I think it’s a lot more chip resistant.

My experience has been that I don’t see as many boats on the Canadian side. Having said that the last time I was getting a crossing permit at Fort Francis they tossed my truck on a slow rainy day. Should have walked across the bridge as was pointed out. They even figured out that I didn’t have my boat with me, said they figured it because of the boat cover, straps, and spare tire.
