The switch was not turned on Sunday for the eyes, but the sheepies were on fire.

In regards to the advice on the trip. Other than Erie, Oahe is my favorite place to chase walleye. I have been there in June, July and August, July in the Pierre area is amazing. Lots of fish on Slow Death, and trolling cranks with braid, and snap weights.

A hair jig is a more compact presentation than a jig and plastic, and the hair has a differnet action in the water. Those combine to be more of a finesse technique that works great in both cold water and in cold front conditions.

Tom, On the great lakes (especially the western end of Erie) Sheppies do eat zebra muscles. I have cleaned many crushed zebra musclees out of the carpet due to the darn critters.

But they are sure fun to have kids real in.

Hand lining is my go to presentation for the river 90% of the time, and any time I fish a river tournament. I learned from Rick LaCourse arguably the best handliner out there on the Detroit River and PWT/FLW circuits. As mentioned above if you are doing it properly your bait is properly presented at the bottom nearly all the time. The other thing is the action you impart by the up and down action of the weight causes your bait to stall and surge with each motion. I take a handful of people out each year to show them the technique.

Guys, There was a boat lost with four people on board last night on Lake Erie, the were heading in around 6:00, and never made it to the landing. The Coast Guard found the boat this morning, with no-one on board. There are now four people missing in Lake Erie. http://www.toledonewsnow.com/story/25270562/coast-guard-searching-for-missing-boat-near?utm_content=buffer50006&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Just another reason to wear your PFD all the time. Please pray for them and their families.

I just saw that that the operating rate for Prairie Island 2 was reported to the NRC to be 29%, guess that means they are in the start-up mode.

One of the tricks that I leared on Erie to safely bleed fish was to pick up a pair of heavy kitchen shears, or set of tree/shrub shears. Much easier and the risk of slipping with a knife is reduced.

For those of us traveling/fishing the NWT event on Oahe, the weekend of the 21st and the 28th are bad.

The grass was fairly heavy on the MN side Sunday, and the fishing has been slow. Water temps were in the 66-67 range.
