Many people forget that it’s actually called the BWCAW. The last W stands for wilderness. As was stated above, all motorized equipment is forbidden except for a few areas where motorboats are allowed. This includes electric motors as well. As a matter of fact, even portage wheels (basically handcarts) are prohibited. As someone else mentioned, if you don’t like the rules, don’t go there. It’s getting too crowded as it is anyway. There are plenty of places to go where motors and vehicles are welcome, and there are very few Wilderness Areas that you can go to get away from them.

I vote Read’s Landing Brewing Co. It has a great ring to it.

The Landing could be any type of bar/coffeeshop/restaurant, and Lake Pepin is not quite geographically specific enough.

BTW, your approach to market research for this brewpub is very smart.

You need to buy wading boots that are larger than your normal size. I think mine are 1 size up from normal, and I probably could have gone up 1.5 sizes. BTW, mine are cabelas backcountry boots

Kudos to you for experimentation. FWIW, I kicked off my first ice season today using only plastics. The Ratso was the clear winner for me. 5 gills 8″+, a few smaller, an 11″ crappie and a couple small white bass.

First of all, thanks to all of you for helping me with this.

I measured the auger and it is 5″ at the blades. Earlier, I had compared its diameter to a DVD, but I was comparing the part of the auger further up than the blades (this part is smaller.) Walleyedds was right about looking for the proper markings (LD5) on the other flap on the box. They were obscured under a shipping label.

I’m going to keep this auger, especially after reading some of the reassuring comments posted about specific fish that some of you have fit through 5″ holes.

I’m sure I’ll be back with more questions in the coming weeks.

    Thanks again,

    Brian
