Here’s a display board I made up and entered in the Olmsted County Fair in the over 62 yrs old division. Blue ribboned! Pretty happy with it and now its heading to the State Fair.

Those little nano’s are hard to work in 2 color. Nice job.

Thanks I’m no where near at what you can do. I am starting to get hooked on this though. I have started my mold collection and now have 11. I think not sure but the essential series plastisol is the best bang for your buck. I have been really enjoying the adding hologram flash to glows and bright colors. Fun stuff but not cheap when you look at $75 to $160 as most mold prices! Let me know if there is a better plastisol you’ve found out there!

Nada on the plastic. Essential is simply a grand slam in quality. I won’t order less than 5 gallons at a pop. Great heat tolerance, very, very few bubble issues. Re-heats and re-melts wonderfully. Low odor and phthalate free making it a great green contribution for the environment. And cheaper than most other plastics.

I cut my 5 gallons of Essential with a full quart of softener in the pail and the resulting plastic is dynamite for my small to medium baits. I find the welding for tail colors much neater and secure using Essential. Love the stuff.

Have you tried any of the Essential molds?

Yes I have the senko and a creature from the essential series. I don’t like how long it takes for the molds to cool down however. The machined aluminum ones take no time. I wish that do-it had more micro stuff. I’ve been to Jacobs and a few others to order panfish stuff. I have been toying with having a machinist make me one. I have a small tail type thing that would be great.

I hear ya on not enough small baits molds at Do-It but they’re really just getting their teeth cut yet. When they bought out Caney they took a real screwing from the former owner.

I have a hard time buying anything from Jacobs. Bass tackle has a lot more to chose from and they get my nod on occasion.

I bought 3 molds from each bass tackle and Jacobs. I bought a few from caney creek before do-it bought them out. There really is not much else for avalible decent Small molds. I hope they come out with some decent stuff in the near future!

I’m working with Do-It on an ice bait mold, cnc, right now. I haven’t heard anything from Ryan in a while so I should maybe give a jingle to see where its at.

If there are any new molds in the small ice type stuff I’m in. I’m pouring walleye, bass, and panfish! The bass sfuff as you know is limitless now. Just need some more small choices for ice and open water panfish molds. I you hear anything let me know!

Bears has a 1″ ice minnow that’s pretty decent and gets fish. The tail is thin like hair, way thinner than that Jacobs ice stinger. Send me your mailing info by pm and I’ll put a few in the mail for you to look at and try.

I may have a picture to show tomorrow. The display has been at the state fair in the creative arts building near the east entrance and has earned a third place white ribbon. I entered this as a means for exposure to a million people for free and never thought that with all of the competition that I’d ever earn a ribbon of any kind or garner any sort of attention to this extent. All I can say is a resound YES!

I have pics on the camera but I am flat on my butt tired and will load and post a picture tomorrow. I still can’t imagine this. Unreal.

Here’s a picture of the bait display with the ribbon. The display is in the same case as the other ribboned submissions, but there are a mess of other things that I think really should have had ribbons. Look at these fish. Carved from wood and absolutely perfect painting. The grand champion for this division was a carved wood Peregrine Falcon. Life-sized, it is painted so precisely it looks like it could blink any second. I couldn’t get a picture of it due to an ornery camera. 20 minutes of my time on two occasions yesterday were spent studying the three fish and that falcon.

In the picture of the plastic display one can see a red ribbon ‘s corner hanging in there. That was hanging on the quilt in the background.

It’s evident that to be recognized at that level how good your work is. As you look at the carvings in amazement the guy who did them wishes he could make baits the same. I have come to the conclusion that I will have thousands sunk into this newfound hobby. All to catch a fish with a pea sized brain.
