Every now and then during the fall walleye bite when the water is cooling off fast I like a tube bait on a jig. The problem is have is that so many tubes, both made and bought, have very thin walls in the body section and the walleye’s teeth raise heck with them. I made this insert modification to allow me to inject much heavier walls in the tubes. I made a boring jig for the drill press and once I had it anchored in place I drilled and tapped a 1/4″ hole. Leaving the jig in place I threaded a 1/4″ coarse thread bolt up from underneath and “locked it in place with a nut. Then I drilled and tapped a 10-32 hole into the 1/4” bolt from the end. Next I removed the bolt/screw and cut the bolt off to the same length as what is on the factory insert and snipped the screw off so both units are the same length. The resulting tubes have a much thicker, tear-resistant wall making it harder for Mr.Eyes to wreck them.
