Those things fight like crazy – love bringing the spinning rod down and catching them on gulp shrimp.
They are fun. The best description of the fight I have heard is “they never stop fighting from the time they are hooked to when you finally land them”. Caught my first ladyfish this weekend and they are surprisingly good, strong fighters too.
Ladyfish poop all over everything….it stains like crazy. Fun to see them jump, though. You need to get on some Tarpon now!
The ones we caught never pooped? They jump, but I neve r expected them to pull hard with that slender body. I hope to jump a juvenile tarpon if I can find some this winter, otherwise I’ll hit the passes in the spring.
First time I caught one with a guide he kept yelling at me not to bring it in the boat. I didn’t understand why til it pooped all over the side of his boat. He immediately started scrubbing and almost didn’t get it off. Nasty….whenever I catch them they poop all over. Caught a few in a kayak last spring and ruined a shirt.
Biggest Tarpon I’ve got was about 50# in Puerto Rico. They don’t have the big ones like FL. I need to make a summer time trip down and hunt big ones.

Depending on where you go, April is usually best.
