Picked up one of these from fleet farm the other day. Thought I would give it a try in the deer stand this year. Was a little worried about it giving off a lot of fumes but trying it last night I noticed very little smell coming from it. Seems to me I remember the old ones stinking of lighter fluid when being used. Anyone else using these things?

If you pick one up remember the lighter fluid is not sold with it.

Whenever I have thought to use them (I have several), they need to be fueled. After fueling them, I am convinced there is a strong odor. The trick might be to fuel them well in advance to give the fuel odor 24 hours to dissipate.

Maybe thats why it seemed to work well the other night with no real oder. Only filled it less than half full just to give it a try. They come with a little cup that you fill it to a certain point for 6hrs. Another for 12 hrs. Once lit they are on until fuel is burned up.

I tried using them when I was a kid and they never seemed to stay lit.
Chemical hand warmers work flawlessly. Put one or two in a fleece hand muff and you are good to go all day.

That was the other thing I was wondering about Mike. Seemed to stay lit just fine while sitting out on the table. Stuffed inside a pocket are they just going to burn up all the oxygen and go out.

I got some chemical hand warmers for back up.

I bought one last year, used it a few times, never hunting.

I pay a buck for the hand warmers and an much much happier using those than the zippo.

Could probably give mine away to anyone that wants it. I bought extra stuff for it too.

I love the zippo’s . Purchased mine a couple of years ago and they have never gone out unless they are out of fuel. The chemical hand warmers suck IMHO they never keep my hands or feet warm.

I have three of them and they have performed flawlessly.
They don’t seem to get as warm as the old Jon e ones.
