Z-Viber lures

A while ago a thread ran about the Z-Viber lures and there were some suggestions that maybe they were hard to find in th TC area as well as here in Rochester. I found some thru Northwest Wholesale Outlet on-line at $4.99 each. Today I was at Joe’s snooping for some shirts with sunblocker and wandered over into the fishing area and found several hooks full of them. Lots of 1/8 ounce and 1/16 ounce. Joe’s price was $5.99 for the 1/16 ounce. Joe’s has Mustad treble hooks hanging right there with the 1/16 ouncers for those who want to shed that un-gainly Jap single hook.

Cute little devils. I can’t wait for some open water.

That green and the pink color in similar fashion are the two go-to’s for me. Works great under the ice for Crappie!

Here’s a better picture with a pair outside of the package, one wearing a size 14 treble and the other with the factory single hook. I like trebles on all lures like this. For those who like the single, beware that the hooks are very brittle. Of the 10 baits I opened the single hook eyes up on to remove them four snapped off before the bend was enough to let the split ring drop out of the gap. They won’t bend much in use and will likely just break off.

Pretty little baits. The Chinese can paint for sure.

We’re supposed to be in the 30’s yet tomorrow so maybe I’ll tie one on and head over to the lake where there’s open water at the dam on the lake side. Always crappies there in the winter.

They work very well Tom in both open water and ice.

I got into some really chunky 12″-12 1/2″ crappies thru the ice one day and scooped some water in my pail to save a couple for dinner that night. I had four when I quit fishing. Those four crappies had puked out maybe twenty sunfish fry about the same size as these little crankbaits are so I’m guessing between the size and profile they’ll be a super good crappie bait. I can’t wait for open water as that’s where I cast my peanut baits, but if tomorrow pans out I’ll be casting close to home and will see if the polluted [excess goose crap] crappies will hit them. If the wind is going to blow, I’ll wait.

While I didn’t have a great Fall this past year crappie fishing, a lot of the nicer crappie I caught were on this bait. In either size.
