Each year I go out to find the tip ups frozen into the ground, even the so called “thermal” units, I say thats it! But this year I’m serious! haha.

What are you guys experience with the different heated boxes out there? What are your favorites, what should I be looking for?

In SD you can have a ton of tip ups.. so Im trying to find a quality unit, thats not a Cadillac. Also not too big that I can pack in a handful of them in the sled?

    Thanks,

Yeah, I guess you maybe have never had your hole freeze over. Thanks for your input.

He was making joke because you said frozen into the ground not ice. I have made my own over the years. I would make a wood box with a hinged lid. I would then put a candle in it and use the spool off of tip-ups. I’ll see if I can find a pic.

I would like to see that. Thinking of trying to configure something similar with pink insulation boards. Would be better without the candle, but can’t find a easier, cheap alternative that wouldn’t give off light.

I know this isn’t a heated tip up but the frail thermal tips up keep my holes clear of ice. Also they are small and very compact!

I was watching a fishing show where they were using heated boxes for perch on Gogebic. It was just a sheet metal box that looked like they used the little butane pots that caterers use. Not sure if I can post the name of the show, but Jeff Andersen is the host.
