Hi all! Looking for advise on what bow to get my 9 y/o daughter. There are a pleathra of junk junior bows on the market. I have loosely settled on the Bear Apprentice 3 which will grow with her. Id like to find a local archery shop to purchase the bow from as it will need adjustments as she grows and hopefully they will take care ofthese. Any other make and model suggestions are very welcome.

Are you looking for a bow that will be able to become hunt legal eventually, or just a starter bow for target shooting?

Your daughter is a bit older than my son, but Henry has been shooting his Matthews Genesis youth bow. It’s totally adjustable for draw weight and has a variable draw length so that this isn’t an issue. It has a long enough draw length that I can shoot it at full draw.

It’s a nice bow, he enjoys shooting it and as a matter of fact, so do I. I don’t believe it can reach a draw weight that would be hunt legal for deer in MN, so it’s definitely a starter bow.

Mr.Grouse, thanks for your input. I am still weighing options. The Bear Apprentise has a max draw weight of 50lbs. That is plenty to cleanly kill a Whitetail. It is 70% let off and both the draw weight and draw length are crazy variable and adjustable.

i started my 3 kids on the mathews genisis and then got them into a mission craz II. the genisis only goes up to 20 pounds but there is no draw length until you get into something better. but for a beginner the price is what caught my eye for them to start. now i was able to trade thier used genisis bows back in on the missions. they where also able to take the whisker bisket and sight and peep off thier old bows and put it on their new ones.

We opted for the Mission too. Great bow for her.
