Buddy with young kids(1 and 5 yo) is looking to go to ML this weekend. Father Hennepin park is full. Any suggestions for a place to camp with a good beach and young kid friendly things to do?
My kids are 26 years old, so I am kind of out of the loop on this.

Appledorns has a nice beach area. Hunter’s Point has a nice playground and sandy beach.

Barnacles has a play ground and beach. Usually the tent spots are open if that’s what he is doing. Those are right on the lake. Pretty cheap nightly rate last time I checked.

Does Appledorns have tent spaces? I thought they went to all condos

Don’t forget about the camping spots on the island at the Wharf. (Over the walking bridge area) Kids have been swimming on the lake side there all summer.

jester jester jester The dock didn’t get out until July 4th weekend, I think the guests put it out. I know a guy that has a place there whistling

The close proximity to the lake probably isn’t real friendly to a 1 and 5 year old though.

I’m biased because they are my close friends but Fisher’s resort is the perfect resort for families. They have been focusing on seasonal family sites for several years now and have a great swimming area.

I’m not sure what they have for campsites but he could also take a look at Agate Bay. Dean and Renee are good people and run a very family friendly resort.

Thanks Will, I was wondering about Fishers. Haven’t been there in quite a while. Do they have a playground also?

I know they have swing sets a volleyball net and a beach with swim pads. They have a good website that shows their camping area.

They have two smaller swing sets with slides, no big playgrounds. We have had a trailer there since 2012 and our kids love swimming at the beach. It’s a nice family resort. That said, I do not recall if they allow tent camping anymore…..been a while since I have seen a tent there.

South Isle Family Campground, not on the lake, but they are set up for kids. There’s a good chance that the place is full it’s their Halloween weekend. You decorate your site and the kids get dressed up in their costume and trick or treat site to site. It’s amazing for the kids and the adults who get to go all out and get their decorations out again. There’s a pool, playground, hay rack rides, and every morning Wally gets the train out for every kid to take a ride.
