I had the unpleasant experience of listening to it live on my truck radio at work. Evil f*&% doing a thing like that while someone is trying to save you. Getting real tired of it and I know most cops are. We won’t have many left unless this area starts backing these guys and gals again.

Terrible tragedy.
The headline of this post makes it seem like MPOs are geeting killed regularly, too much for sure but this was the first in 20 years. Wanted to get data on how the states differ, hard to do a Google search that does not bring you to the number murdered BY police. Time to start seeing the needless danger of this job and start supporting the men & women who work hard to keep us safe.
I remember when Bill Clinton worked to put more police on the streets and more criminals in jail. This actually became a political liability for Hillary, wow.BrittmanPosts: 1944June 1, 2024 at 6:15 pm #2275262I believe 30 years ago then Senator Biden was pretty hardline for strict sentencing of criminals. He was a tough on crime moderate Democrat. I suppose he is now too old to remember and/or too weak to take that stance no matter what his party’s narrative is today.

From the Strib today: “The fatal shooting marks at least the 12th time in less than 14 months that law enforcement officers have been killed or wounded by gunfire in or near Minnesota.”

Minneapolis is different than in or near Minnesota and killed is different than killed or wounded by gunfire.
2002 was the last time Minneapolis police officer was killed by gunfire and is what articles are referencing as first in 20 years.
BrittmanPosts: 1944June 2, 2024 at 11:16 am #2275301Plenty of out-state officers shot and some killed in the line of duty, including both MN and WI. Western WI is definitely rural and they lost 3 officers in two incidents a year ago.

Any LEO killed by gunfire anywhere is too many.
June 2, 2024 at 5:38 pm #2275326I think there was an older thread about this, but the charges against state trooper Ryan Londegren have been dropped. A statement by Hennepin County stated his actions were justified in the use of deadly force during a routine traffic stop of Ricky Cobb last summer.

Seems pretty harsh? The title of this thread is completely inaccurate/misleading and he was correct to point that out.
Tragic senseless death.

Saw that as well. Best thing I heard all day.

Hopefully Mary Moriarty drops a letter of resignation soon as well

Lol I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one munchy.
I didn’t agree with those charges to begin with, but at least the data and evidence can speak for itself. Hopefully he returns to the force and starts pulling over law breakers again soon. Lord knows we need as many out there as are willing.
June 3, 2024 at 7:37 am #2275371When you hear or see Moriarty talk, it sounds very condescending. Like she’s talking to a 10 year old. Slow and methodical so we are sure to understand it. I wonder if she talks that way all the time?

A guy can dream can’t he?
And no I’m not actually dreaming of Mary Moriarty ***shivers***
June 3, 2024 at 8:32 am #2275387She actually said in her statement, in not so many words, he is still guilty of murder in her eyes, but she can’t prove it so…

Like a certain VP….

I’m fully aware of the nuance in his statement. Doesn’t mean it’s not BS to even mention. As we all know the cities are much larger than MSP borders and in most reasonable peoples minds targeting cops is equally disgusting regardless of whether they die or not.
The heading of the thread refers to another MSP cop shooting. Which this was the 4th time cops in MSP have been intentionally shot at this year (per the original press conf). This was just the first one that an MPD officer was killed in 20 years, meanwhile an off duty Fireman directing traffic got caught in the crossfire and died a few weeks ago in MSP (Joseph Johns was his name if you want to Google it) or the 2 officers and fireman murdered in Burnsville in February. Or the StP and MSP cops shot and “just” injured in the last year. Or the cop per month being shot and either killed or wounded in our states general area. “But 20 years…” again stfu. Imo, respectfully.

She is used to no one listening.
June 3, 2024 at 12:24 pm #2275485Like a certain VP….
She’s worse. Who talks like that? It’s like she’s on drugs, forgets what she was going to say and then figures something out.

In the way I read it she really didn’t say that his actions were justified, only that her office wouldn’t be able to get a conviction on him. She said his actions were within training protocols, but then disagreed with those protocols and basically bashed law enforcement.
Kare 11 has a story today about Moriarty calling out Walz saying he interfered with her office or something along those lines. Then Walz said yesterday he would have removed the case from the HCAO if the charges hadn’t been dropped! I’m wondering how much the recent killing of the Minneapolis officer influenced all this.
June 3, 2024 at 1:45 pm #2275522Data and evidence should speak for itself. I don’t care what the DA says, the governor says, or whoever else. If the evidence isn’t there, its not there. To me its very black and white. You either move forward if you think you have a case, or you drop it. This one is dropped.
I personally don’t even think it should have even gotten this far, but then again I haven’t seen all the evidence or data either. I only saw the dash cam and bodycam video after the incident.
