Is naming stream on the internet a good or bad thing?
Is it a lot to do about nothing?
I think the one’s that know, know were the steams are. A few may go and look the steams over but, I think nothing becomes of it. It takes work to do something.
100% personal preference. No one should be up in arms about somebody else’s choice to share, or not to share. So I’m in the much ado about nada camp.
I’ll say— I did read the article and the quality of the writing was more offensive than the secrets he gives away. But he does get awfully specific a few times. Part of the fun is trying to find the spot being vaguely described, but he doesn’t leave a lot up to mystery.
Never understood why some anglers think that all trout streams are big secrets that only they know about and some guy naming them on the net is some big treason.
I’ve made a few trips to that area and fished most of the rivers named. They have been well documented in books back before the internet was available to most.
The WHERE is nothing. It’s what to do when you get there that matters. Which section to fish, how to efficiently access the best water, how you fish, etc, etc. Basically, the river is just the start of a long learning process that can’t be short-cut.
Grouse
I think we all should have learned our lesson in the late 90’s and 2000’s. I quit posting much for reports or pics if nothing else because of the drama. For example I caught a LMB over 6 lbs out of the Miss River, a hog. Posted a pic. Granted not a great pic but I was alone and did not want to lay the fish on the carpet and remove its slime protectant. Got accused of lying etc.. Well 7 lbers get caught here in the Spring now and thst fish is not that remarkable. Plus the pool of community holes only got bigger.

As far as quality of writing, what more would you expect from the Vernon County WI “Broadcaster” media?
And as far as mystery…do you know where that cottonwood tree lying across a pool on Reads Creek is?

You don’t have to be big-shot writer to know that piece is a mess. More commas than an NFL player has baby mommas.
As for the tree. . . I felled that sucker!
That’s a tough one. I think it’s a great idea to put people onto fish. Most of the time. The problem comes when (imo) it’s a generally unknown but easy to access spot. When those gems are publicized, you get people who don’t care about acting as wardens of outdoor beauty, but instead are just people with nothing better to do who tear the places up, leave trash, and generally room it for the rest of us. That’s just my take though
