Year-Round Bass Season Is On The Table In Minnesota What are your thoughts?

If only us bass folks weren’t so unethical and prone to walleye poaching, maybe the DNR would open up bass fishing year round like they do for the more ethical and highly trustworthy panfish folks.

Sarcasm I know, but you get the point…

In the three small local tournament trails I participate in, i have not seen a single metal clasp cull tag. Plastic clamp style yes.

However, I have seen people that still weight their fish in a boat, pushing the metal hook through the membrane under the lower jaw or inside the gill plate. A plastic clamp style is ideal hear as well.

A would welcome a year-round season on Bass (all species actually). Allow fishing for, but put closed harvest seasons in if that protects vulnerable populations.

I cringe when I see someone using those metal J hooks with a scale. Some people shove it right into the gills. Plus sometimes the fish comes off and then smacks onto the ground or floor and knocks itself stone dead.

Luckily, that hated metal J hook seems to be getting phased out. I mostly see clamps now.

Both my dad and myself use clamp scales and clamp cull floats.

I can’t speak of what others are using because I am not looking in their boats.

I know the high school tourney doesn’t allow cull tags unless they are clamps. And the scales they supply are clamps as well. Same with the scale I run.

If a person is dumb enough to think that blunt J hook on a scale is supposed to be shoved through a fish’s jaw, they shouldn’t be allowed to be out in public.

For the record, I have seen it done too.
