Well, if some of you remember, I’m one of the Yamaha 90 SHO owners that had a problem with it killing when you first start it. This has been going on for a little over a year. Yesterday over at Red Wing I started it up waiting for it to kill like always. To my shock, it didn’t happen. I don’t know what got into it, but I hope it continues.

How was the fishing? And hope your motor troubles are behind you.

The Fishing was really slow. The wind was blowing up stream at 15mph plus. You couldn’t hide from it. We put four fish in the boat, one sauger, one walleye, one sturgeon, and one 27 lb catfish. Plus, the water was really clear. Still great to be back on the water.

My 115 Merc proXS had done this twice, both when temps are very low. Started back up with no issues each time.

I’m considering repowering with a Yamaha 115 Vmax SHO for other reasons though.

Our pontoon has a 50 horse gray yamaha from around 2007 of so. It starts and dies every time you start it after it has cooled off. It also dies if you let it idle or try to go too fast. If you run it at 3000rpm it will run for hours and hours though…but low idle will die every 5 minutes and you need to pump the primer bulb to get it fired back up

That sounds like it may be a fuel system issue, specifically a bad primer ball or fuel line. Not bad enough to prevent running yet, but going bad. Something to consider
