I replaced the impeller last fall
and I’m having trouble getting the lower
unit lined up with the 5” spacer part.

I can get it lined up and then when I tighten
the bolts it gets off kilter a bit.
I’ve tried many combinations of tightening the bolts with no luck.

It sorta looks like Yamaha may have used
    a red loctite upon assembly.

This was the first time I’ve done this myself.

Has anyone had this issue on a Yami?

    Any suggestions ? TIA

I do not know what you mean by the 5″ spacer? Are you having trouble getting the lower unit to attach back to the rest of the motor? You need to make sure you did not shift it into a different gear than when you pulled it. This video shows in good detail the whole job.

Whether the gear position was changed or if the shift shaft moved slightly causing the splines to be misaligned it will not engage. Same thing goes for the drive shaft. If it was turned at all during the impeller replacement it will need to be spun while installing the gearcase to get the splines aligned with the powerhead again.

The spacer turns a short shaft into a long shaft.

I have it all back together, it just
isn’t as lined up as I would like.

Don’t remember it being that way but it may have been when I started.

    Thanks for the replies!

I’ll take a pic the next time I’m near the motor.

    Pics of spacer.

It doesn’t line up with top part of motor. It’s better on the bottom but still off.

Can someone with a F90TXR check theirs for spacer alignment ?

    Thanks!

Does the spacer/extension look correct ?

I remember alternating dowels on top and bottom corners of the extension making it impossible to install upside down. Correct ?

    Thanks!
