Have a Yamaha F200 on 2016 mx1825. It has always made a short whine coming off plane fast. Noticed this when breaking it in. Thought it would go away. Still there at season end. Anyone know about this?

I have a yammy f150 and get a gurgling sound coming off plane as well, still have a steady stream coming out of motor. Could it be air bubbles when coming off plane? Following

I don’t think so. It is definitely a whine coming from the motor head. Not sure if it’s gears or timing belt. Doesn’t happen when I come off plane slow

Take a tech for a ride and document it. When it is acknowledged during the warranty period and documented, anything that happens later is at least written down. If the sound is consistent and not intermittent, I don’t think it is a flaw. My f150 does a similar sound. Your dealer is your friend, especially when still in the warranty period. Make sure you follow the maintenance schedule and most important of all, run it and enjoy it!!!

Definitely get it looked at the early f150s had a poorly made counter balencer which would whine. The gears were a composite plastic and when they failed it will plug up the oiling system. If bad enough would seize the powerhead before the oil buzzer would even go off.Had mine replaced 5 years ago the motor had 160 hours and the teeth of the gears could be picked apart with your finger nails.Luckily I caught it in time. These engines should not have any whining noise at all.It was not a cheap fix, like $1300 but alot cheaper than a powerhead.

Umm is this more of a common issue with these F150 and F200’s?
Not promising when Seriously looking at the mx1825.
    Thanks

I have an 08 F150 that had to have the balancer replaced. I don’t know what year they fixed the problem. My dealer also said that pieces of the gears can plug oil lines and cook the motor if you don’t catch it.

I’m taking her to the dealer next week for service. I have been reading a lot about drive shaft bushings needing lubrication and the difficulty with getting lubrication into them without taking the water pump off.

Mark more that likely it is the driveshaft bushing. But that engine does have a balancer like the F150 which could have a whine but then it usually does it all the time, and it is more common to have a balancer failure if you have had an impact with the gearcase at a high rate of speed. Lots of times on when the engine is ran hard on plane the driveshafts get a little warmer and swell just a little and then the bushing if its dry will make it whine. Best thing to do is take it in and just have the dealer check and if it is the bushing Yamaha has a special grease designed to go on the bushings and it should quiet it down for a while.

    @andys @Asch @drmark @bmyers

OK guys what’s the deal here?
Are these plastic gears a baby sitting issue or not? What about these drive shaft bushings?

I was under the impression that these yamaha’s were fool proof and low maintenance. Now you guys got me looking at rangers and mercury and evinrudes.

doah you need a head banging on wall emoji. Lol
    Thanks

Mark,James, all outboards have an issue of some kind or another just like ford, chevy, dodge, and it varies from year to year, model to model.
you have a great outboard, have a dealer check it out and repaired NOW.
let all of us know what is found out so it can be of use to someone else in the future.

once it is taken care of,you should have many hours of worry free use.

I think Yamaha is a fine motor with a good reputation. Yamaha is new to me this year and I have previously use Suzuki. I just never kept a boat for more than 3 years until now where I have the boat I want. It’s just a noise I hear and wonder about. There is no such thing as any “fool proof” mechanical product. It could very well be it will make that noise after long runs and do no damage. I am going to document with the dealer and have it looked at to be covered under warranty just in case. Read the various message boards lots of different experience with this noise and most have no mechanical problem.

    Thank you Sheldon and Mark.
That’s how I have believed about outboards. I mean so many knock one kind and others never have an issue.

I just needed to know that there was not an issue with this plastic gear and teeth that yamaha did nothing about. I have not ever had a yamaha but have heard so much talk about how easy they are to maintain.

    Thanks again

It was the driveshaft bushing. A little lube will take care of it.

Figured what Brian was mentioning to be the issue… I have an older 115 and it does the same thing. I bought some of the grease from SBC after they replied here on the thread where I was asking about it. Solved the problem, and it only has happened once since after a very long run. Used a shotgun cleaning tool as they pointed out to get up in there and lube it.
