Yamaha 8-15 HP Tiller Handle Throttle Twist Adjustment Question

I think this is a simple adjustment fix, but wanted to see if anybody else have ever dealt with a Yamaha outboard tiller handle throttle only twisting about 3/4 of an inch of travel from min to max? I included a picture to explain what i’m talking about, the red lines indicate the twist travel of the throttle handle. When tanked tested, it seemed like the full range of rpm’s were hit, so it’s not limiting the throttle at all, it’s just the limited twisting range of slow to fast is reduced to just 3/4 of an inch. Every other tiller motor i’ve owned had several inches of twist travel in the throttle so you had alot of twist range between slow and fast.

Is this just a simple adjustment? I’m thinking of purchasing the motor, so I don’t have it in front of me to really look at it.

    Dumb question? Maybe…

Is this in neutral, or with it in gear? I know mine does that while in neutral, but when put in gear, I get the full range.

Not a dumb question! I was only tank testing it so I never did put it in gear and rev it, maybe that’s it! I pick it up soon and will test that. Thanks!

That’s gotta be it. Every tiller I have ever driven has only had a small portion of the throttle available in neutral.

Yes my Yamaha tiller does the same thing in neutral. My much older Merc did not. YMMV.

I’m used to older 2 stroke tillers that had no neutral restriction, but it makes sense to have. Thanks for the responses!
