I’m attaching a Xi5 to my boat with the aluminum quick release. While I’m not opposed to drilling new holes, I’ve seen online where other have used their existing Minnkota bracket in combination with the motorguide bracket and avoided drilling more holes?

Anyone have any experience with this?

I used my “minn kota” bracket (wasnt minn kota brand, but another for a minn kota) for my xi5 without any issues. Its been a few years since I did it, but it works fine.

I just mounted the one piece to the base of the motor and the other piece stayed on the boat the whole time.

What I’m seeing online is guys using a Motorguide bracket ON TOP OF a Minnkota bracket.

Not sure why they would do that. I just used the bracket I had. I never bought a motorguide bracket. Not sure what the advantage or reasoning for that would be.

I did this but had to trim some plastic on the guard to get bolts in old one sat lower, other than that worked just fine.

I went for a Terrova to the XI5 and reused the Minnkota quick release that I had on the Terrova. I have the MKA-51 bracket. If I remember correctly I may have had to drill 2 holes.
