Looking to do an antelope hunt to Wyoming this fall. We have 3 of us and none of us have points for Wyoming.

We have been researching the units we would be able to draw With 0 points. Most look to be private land hunts, land with limited public, or land with lots of public and no access too it.

We have until May 31st too apply, so we have time yet. Anyone have any tips or units to look into or stay away from? Remember we do not have any preference points.

We do plan a pretrip out there for 5 days once we figure out a unit.

    Thanks for any info.

Remember there are antelope licenses issued in high demand antelope hunt areas in a random draw. So, don’t forget to pick a higher demand hunt area with good access to public lands and apply in the random draw for that hunt area. Chances of drawing are low, but somebody has to draw.

Then, pick a hunt area where the draw odds are such that you can draw on your second choice and apply for that hunt area with your second choice.

If you have done some research already, then you know that the hunt areas you can draw on your second choice. Typically, those areas are in the northeastern part of Wyoming.

I would not apply for antelope Hunt Area 15 as there is virtually no access to public lands in HA 15. The same holds true for HA 10. HA 16 has a little accessible public land, but you will have to hike into it. HA 22 has some scattered public land parcels where nonresidents kill some antelope, but the animals can move to private lands.

Do not apply for HA 23 and HA 24 type 2 licenses as those are valid only on private lands and access to private lands in those areas is nearly impossible to acquire. There is some public lands to hunt in HA 23, but it gets hunted fairly hard.

HA 17 has very little public land access. Nonresidents hunting HA 17 are usually frustrated with the situation. Ha 18 and HA 19 have some accessible public land (National Grasslands). All the HA’s mentioned above open on October 1.

HA 109 has little to no public land access. HA 102 has a couple areas with access, one of those areas is the Wyoming Game & Fish Department’s Bud Love Wildlife Habitat Management Area. But, there will be a lot of people on that area the first 3-5 days of the season (October 15-20). Another place in HA 102 that is public is the Bighorn National Forest and depending on the weather prior to the opening date (October 15) there is usually a few antelope on the Forest. The Bull Creek State lands southwest of Buffalo would be accessible but there will be many hunters on that area as deer and elk seasons open October 15 as well. HA 20 has scattered public lands that will be hunted fairly heavy the first week or so of the season (October 15 to the 23-24).

    OK, there is your rundown.
