WXR2060 – 300 Yamaha – Jack plate and prop

First boat with a manual jack plate so looking for any suggestions. Started at 7 dots with a stock Yamaha 20 pitch prop. 3 guys I can hit 55mph in good conditions and trim up to 6100 RPMs but I loose about 2 MPH trimmed up (55MPH at 5800 RPMs). I lowered the plate to 5 dots and tested this weekend. roughly the same results, alone with a half tank I can now only hit 54. I’m going to raise the plate back to 7 dots but now am wondering if a prop change would help? I know, first world problems but for the price I’d like to get what I can out of it on the 2 days a year I can open it up on the Great Lakes (I do love the ride in rough conditions so far). I thought with the 300 I should get close to 60 alone but maybe I’m chasing something so I thought I’d ask. I’ve got about 12-13 hours on the motor if that matters. Thanks in advance.

Congrats on the new boat. Those things are awesome! Our neighbors have one and we go fishing with them once in a while. I love how solid it feels in the rough stuff. As for speed unfortunately Yamahas seriously lack power but they make up for it with reliability.

Your going down a rabbit hole with this one. See if a 4 blade will help you. If your trimmed up and at red line RPM not to much more you can do. You will either go over Red line or be below red line to far with different pitch props. But they say that for every drop in pitch you gain or loose 400 rpm.

I’m not sure where you bought it but any high volume dealer should be able to tell you what to expect since that combo has been around for a while. I’m guessing around 56ish is about all your going to see on a good day assuming you have the boat fully rigged and have the kicker mounted as well. That 300hp Yami isn’t known to be a speed demon.

Some additional input, this rig was redesigned in 2024, the 300 HP rating just came out on the 2025 model year so I was hoping someone with this make/model may have some input. I think the dealer did a great job with setup but dealers set these boats up not knowing a lot of the variables. Yes, I have a kicker and full load including 5 batteries but 3 are lithium’s. If anyone is running one of these in the mid-west I would be interested to hear about your experience. Are my numbers similar to what you are seeing or did anyone touch 60 with better propping?
