Any of you guys that have or have run the tillers run a gas kicker? Curious what size you had or if everybody just ran electrics.

    Thanks.

I had a 2009 with a 115 and I put 1100 hours on in 3 seasons. That boat/motor combo trolls forward and backward perfectly. I wouldn’t mess with a kicker. Another good option is a 36volt bowmount. You should be able to go trolling speeds or less all day.

Have to chime in, ran a 2009 WX2000T with a 115 Yamaha and a Vantage 101, never felt like I needed a kicker. if the4 vantage would not pull it then the 115 would troll slower than the vantage at a higher setting. To me it was the perfect tiller. Mine was rated for a 150 but I never went there but whish I should have. I now have a MX1850 and am adjusting but I do have a vantage on the back and a terrova on the front.

Of all the 2000 Ts we have sold, I can only remember 2 t9.9 kickers added. One of them is on to a wheel boat and the other did not add it again on his next tiller boat. But it sure can be added.

i ran an ’09 with 150hp main and a 9.9hp kicker for 4 years. it did not impact the balance or running performance of the boat in any noticeable way, and with an extension handle it was quite easy to operate from the driver’s seat.

the 150hp didn’t lend itself to trolling as nicely as a 115hp would have, so that was a consideration, as well as keeping the hours down on the main motor. in my case, i mainly used the kicker to forward troll for muskies, usually 3.5mph – 5mph, and those speeds aren’t the kind of thing you can do with an electric. when trolling tight on the rocks it also allowed me to keep the big motor’s prop kicked up where it was out of danger. i fish LotW very late in the season when there aren’t many other boats around, so that kicker is a safety factor as well. i had the ignition on the big motor burn up one year and that kicker both got us back to camp from 10 miles away and meant we could still fish the last few days of our trip.
