WX 2060 kicker motor setback

I have always been a fan of keep it simple stupid. I feel the setback plate for the kicker, over complicates the whole thing, escpecially with the Sea Star cable kicker steer. I would rather keep that setback plate off the transom of the boat if possible, and not have that have that 110lb motor hanging 8″ of the transom. I see the setback plate in all of the pictures in the Skeeter brochure, so I am sure it works. But, if I am using the Sea Star hydraulic cable steer I don’t feel that it is necessary. Am I wrong? I am getting ready to pull the trigger on this boat (as soon as I get a ride) and want to make sure I am setting it up right. I fish Erie 95% of the time and she is bear on equipment. I appreciate the comments and insights.

My thinking is that the kicker setback was to match the setback on the main motor. I wouldn’t be concerned about that setback one bit as guys hang 500lb motors off Jack plates and set backs all the time without issue. I ran my 2060 for the time this weekend and found zero issues or concerns with the setback.

The main reason for the setback is so the throttle and shift cables clear the rear deck when the kicker is trimmed up. Without the setback it will crush those 2 cables.
It is also so you can link the 2 motors with the solid tie bar and not have clearance issues. In your case you avoid that by the hydraulic steering system for the kicker.

The set back on those two motors are built like a tank. You won’t have any problems with them.

I hadn’t thought about or seen the motor go up or down. that makes perfect sense now. Thanks for pointing that out. Justin how did the boat run for you. I have the ok to put the trigger after I sell my Starcraft, but I haven’t been able to get a ride in one yet. I am tempted to do it, but I have done that before and was disappointed. And these things aint cheap.

    Phil-
Where are you located? You would be more than welcome to go for a ride in mine. I’m located in Sioux City, IA and I also have a summer home near Park Rapids, MN. I’ve only had mine out twice, but I can tell you that the 250 SHO is all that I want hanging on my transom.

how big of a setback is often used with a kicker?
what impact does a setback have on sharp turns in each direction?

Mike, they use a 8 inch setback for the kicker when there is a 8 inch jackplate or setback for the big motor. Cant really say that I notice any turning radius difference. It is on there purely for remote kicker cable management reasons. For tiller kickers, we do not use them.

I only put about 4 hours on the boat last weekend most of which were break in hours running on plane but I’m very impressed what I’ve seen so far. The VMax SHO is a BEAST of a motor and has some serious torque. Fuel economy appeared much better than I expected. That react keel is really something special as well.

If you do go the 2060 route do yourself all favor and talk to the guys as SBC. Can’t say enough about the great experience I had working with Dean and his entire staff. These guys know their stuff and made the buying process very informative as well as enjoyable.

Guys, thanks for all the offers for rides. I am in central Ohio, and primarily fish Erie, St. Clair. I have made up my mind to go with the WX2060. I am excited to be joining the Skeeter Nation, now I just have to sell my Starcraft. I will update everyone as we get further into it.
