I have been thinking about getting a new boat in a couple of years and I’m in the process of doing my research to decide what I want. If possible I would like some real info from people that own this boat. How does it back troll? How is the tackle storage? since you can’t get any type of power steering how does it handle in rougher water; i have heard that it is pretty much effortless. What speed in forward can you troll down to for pulling cranks. Any go or bad on this boat would be awesome. The next boat I. going to buy will be my last one and I want a 20′ glass tiller. Any info would be great.

I owned a 2009 WX2000T with a 115. Great layout, great storage, and a sharp looking boat. The problem with the boat is that you are never going to shut the motor off. I always run a small sock out of the front, so when backtrolling I could get down to .4 with the big motor. Forward trolling was right at 2. The motor is quiet too so even if I was idle on a drift I still let it run. In rough water I did have some arm fatigue on hour long runs but I don’t think the average fisherman makes those long trips. Let me know if you have more questions.

This is the info I’m looking for. I would put a Ipilot on the front for when it is not windy. I live in North Dakota and lets face it the wind blows almost all the time. I do run a little bit 10 to 15 miles on same days. I currently have 2005 crestliner 1850 fishhawk with a 115 opti. There has been days with a cross chop and wind blowing 30 MPH that I get beat up. When it is windy I usually back troll with a drift sock out 99 percent of the time with the wheel boat that I have now, but really want to go to a tiller. If Yamaha had power steering I wouldn’t even be asking these questions. Like I said this next boat is going to be the last I get and I want to do it right. I have been looking at yarcraft also, but the prices are better on the skeeter and I’m sure that is because of the outboard size. Not a fan of rangers and warrior is out of my price range. I have a few years before I can purchase a new boat I just want to get all my ducks in a row.

Fife is right on with his opinions on the boat. He is more of a backtroller then myself. I had owned 2 of the 2009s and one had the 115 and one had the 150 with power steering (2009 was only year that was an option).

Great storage space and I think its is one of the best layouts of the 20′ class. I had ran a T8 kicker and Vantage on the back of both of mine. I think the 115 was just fine on this platform. I only had 1 time ever that I felt out matched in big water and that was in some nasty stuff on Lake of the Woods and we still managed just fine but that was a day that if it was not a tournament you would not be out there.

Mine with the 115 fully loaded with my gear, fuel, livewell, T8 kicker, Vantage, and Terrova the best I seen by myself was 40.2 and with 2 guys it was a 37-38mph boat with the load I carried around and mine was as heavy as you can load one.

There are dealers that still have the power steering but they won’t sell them without you buying a new boat from them. Don’t wait to long i’m guessing there aren’t many left. BTW Skeeter Boat Center had a 2011 for sale.

I did call the Skeeter Center and they said they don’t sell many with kickers, because you really didn’t need one. I pull cranks a lot and also back troll with my kicker now so I think a 9.9 would work good one the boat. I figured I would connect it to the big motor and use a Itroll for speed. that way I can use the big tiller handle to control the kicker and the Itroll for speed. Anyone think this wouldn’t work?

What about saving some weight and adding and engine mounted trolling motor instead of a kicker?

You could also troll with your bowmount to keep hours off your big motor. A 36 volt system should last all day in most conditions.

One other thing to think of is if you go new the New F115 have VTS so your trolling speeds should go down!!
