Looking for a good 2 up or touring snow machine. Would consider sleds like a Venture, Panther, Pantera, Touring/Grand Touring, XLT, Indy, etc. I’m not tied up in brands, as long is it runs well.

I would consider anything from about 1997 onward but would like miles under about 4000. Condition is more important than age. I would prefer sleds with reverse.

The sled will be used for accessing my hunting property in the winter. Long winters the past 2 years have convinced me that this is the only practical solution. Need 2 up capacity.

I’m in the east metro. PM me with what you have and price.

    Thanks.

I know what you are saying, the Ranger couldn’t get me to my stand at the end of the season anymore so I picked up the same thing you are looking for. I found a 1997 Indy 500 classic e-start reverse, mint shape, not even the seat has a tear. I couldn’t find much around here, ended up getting this one in southern WI, just had to take the trailer along while I was down there visiting family for x-mas. Funny thing was that it was actually my parents neighbors.

Yes the last 2 winters have just had too much snow and last year I could have been using a snowmobile until late March to get into my property.

I’m starting a cabin build next year, so winter will be a good time to get work done up there next winter, but obviously I need a way to get in there easily.

PM me if anyone has anything available.

    Thanks.

How far you willing to travel grouse? Have family in brainerd who are sledheads with big networks and may know some.

It’s a 2004 Arctic cat bear cat 660 4 stroke wide track with a little over 1100 miles only used for fishing.stored inside at all times.

I appreciate all the replies. For now, I’m going to have to put the idea on hold. I need to rethink my trailer and storage options now that I’ve looked at a few 2-up sleds. I need more storage space than I thought I would, it’s not going to work to tuck it in the back of the shed.

Thanks guys, appreciate all the replies.

Just put tracks on your wheeler Grouse. Less storage needed and one less thing to register & maintain.

I was kind of thinking about that because it solves the storage and maintainance issue, but tracks are a lot more expensive than an older snow machine.

I was really looking hard at JWheelz. . . Wonder if these would work good enough…

I’ve looked at those J Wheelz for my wheeler. I’ve spent a lot of time on the ice in a lot of different places and I have yet to see a single wheeler use them. That says something to me at least. Maybe others here in a different part of the state has seen more of them in action. If so I’d like to hear about it.

Could it be as simple as they don’t look as cool as tracks? Lack of effective marketing?

They may not be the best solution for snow, but for my needs I’d be happy with “good enough”. You’re probably never going to get a guy that shelled out $4-5k for tracks to admit that he could have gotten by with $600, but I’m not after style points, I’m just interested in what works.

They are fugly but if they worked you would see them out there. For a lot of guys spending 4 or 5 grand on tracks just isn’t even in the cards but $600 probably is. You don’t even see them being pimped at the ice shows so it could be a marketing thing as well.

You ever consider a Snow Dog? Year around use and I have seen them both on the ice and at the shows. They are gaining some traction! Pun intended jester

I tend to think JWheelz is no longer in production. I’ve tried communicating with them in the past and no responses. There are a few problems with them. Hard on tie rods and bearings when you start to plow through snow, very hard on lug nuts, few reports that exist indicate they slip off frequently. So that is likely the problem with them.

I don’t believe they work and I wouldn’t waste time looking into them further

You are far better off going with the widest tire you can fit. I have 27×12’s on all 4 corners. Run the tires backwards which helps with floatation rather than typical rotation which promotes digging. Use chains on the back. Should be good for a lot of snow. I was fishing Devils Lake in March on my ATV last winter when everyone kept saying “tracks only”.

You will get stuck, but that’s why you have a winch

How about a set of chains and a “V” plow for the wheeler?

JWheelz suck. I tried them as a cheap alternative to tracks. Cody is correct on some of the issues. Tie rods and bearings went and they really weren’t that great in snow. Would really feel like it was going to buck you off when you hit an uneven area where with a normal setup you would bounce side to side. With those sticking out so far it would kick like a donkey. Ended up tossing them after a season and a half and going with Mattracks. So much better. If you look you can find tracks for around 4500. Camoplast and Kimpex are in that range.

They are not speed demons but have you ever thought of getting an Argo or MaxII? You can find the older 6×6 ones on c-list for $4k or less, some even with tracks and cab covers already installed. They go through most anything and even float if you punch through…

I just priced out new tracks last night $3999. I would think a person could find a used set for around $2000-$2500?

There’s some around for sure, I recently got a 97 550 liquid cooled panther 2 up heated grips and thumb warmer and reverse 1 owner had 1600 miles on it and was in excellent shape, I paid 1700 for it, then had it completely gone through
