Just seening If any one has one laying around taking up space. My son wants to sit in one with me. I’m in north branch mn. I’m trying to avoid spending 300 on something that might get used 3 times this year, I’m a ground hunter but he wants to try the stand

Oh perfect, guess I don’t go to either place often. Thank you sir
deertrackerPosts: 9237September 30, 2022 at 6:55 am #2149548I bought one at Menards years ago. Just a heads up, it feels more like a person and a half stand. Depending on your and your sons size, it may be a little tight. But maybe they changed it now.

This is spot on. They really aren’t a “2 person adult” stand. If you have one adult and one SMALL child then it will work. If your kid is reasonable size, its going to be tight. Especially once you both start layering up with heavy blaze orange.
And another thing too, the ones designed to use the tree trunk as a back rest are miserable to sit in. I’d select one that actually has a real back rest. When I first started using ladder stands, I experienced this issue. It will wreck you and you won’t want to sit in it very long.

September 30, 2022 at 8:57 am #2149571I have double that works with my 9 year son well. Also have 2 single ladder stands that I put a hang on next to it so we can sit together
27eyeguyPosts: 314September 30, 2022 at 10:32 am #2149594I would recommend 2 single ladder stands, or ladder n hang on. Investment would be about the same as a true 2 person ladder and then if son goes the tree stand route he would have a couple to run with. We went to ladder stands almost exclusively when our son started hunting, just felt they were a safer option. That one on CL does look decent though.

There is free one on a WMA not too far from you.
September 30, 2022 at 1:03 pm #2149628You guys all talking about comfort ? Since when. Is deer hunting comfortable. I’m not trying to spoil the kid, if he were older he’d be on a standing single platform. But for now he can cuddle up to me. Last year his buck was killed while open ground hunting
Thanks Haley I messaged that guy I like that stand

There is nice 2 person stands they are just really spendy, and that won’t wreck it for me, when I do sit in a tree it’s in a single standing platform. And I’ll stand there for hours. No real comfort for us during the hunt. Either laying in a swamp or sitting against a down tree, hanging in a crappy platform with no seat. And that’s how Mason has been taught as well.

I hear ya. If you only intend to use it for a few hours a couple times to just try it, then el cheapo is fine. I’ve used ladder stands for about 15 years now. When I first started using them, I basically just bought what was on sale. After sitting in them for a couple hours, my back would get extremely sore. I got rid of those and decided to start using ones with dedicated back rests instead of the ones that use the tree trunk as back rests. I generally sit there for about 11 or 12 hours, every day of the 9 day firearms season, so I needed something I could tolerate. Deer hunting can get extremely boring for hours or days on end, and sitting in a stand that is uncomfortable made it worse. I’d walk around like a hunch back after deer season with those old stands I first used lol
