Wow, I was shocked when I read this in the new rule changes. Missed it the read through and I’m sure there are other that may have missed it as well.

A person may not possess someone else’s tagged
deer while in the field, even after it is registered,
unless the tag holder is present.

This is absurd. I have a daughter that comes down from college and one that will only hunt opening weekend. We register there deer and I transport them home without them present when I come home. I have the truck and they can not transport them. Done it that way for a long time. This is just crazy.

Interesting. I guess it is all up to interpretation on what “in the field” means.

Does it mean at a gas station where your buddy gets out to get smokes and takes a leak, and your sitting there with 2 deer in the truck? Does that buddy need to take the deer inside with him? Does the deer have to be carded for smokes too?

In MN you just need a note from the person to transport game for someone. Maybe I need to see if ours changed.

I think, “in the field” is the key statement.

Just got off the phone with the DNR on this. The law is written based on the new phone registration that we will be going to in 2015. Field = place where the deer was shot

Since a deer will/can be immediately registered with a phone call, the person tagging it must be present while the deer is removed from where it was shot. I still don’t like who it is written and leaves a lot of latitude for interpretation

Randy I know nothing about the laws in WI.

In MN the synopsis booklet isn’t the actual law, just summarizing it in an understandable form.

My point is, go directly to the law on the books to see what it really says. Sometimes the law is clearer then the summary….other times not. )

“In MN the synopsis booklet isn’t the actual law, just summarizing it in an understandable form.”

I don’t recall how the MN book reads off hand, but that statement made me laugh in regard to the WI regs booklet.
