I almost hate to post this because of how sad it is to see. A friend of mine sent this to me and we got in a debate over what could have caused the injury and what the chances are for the deer to survive. I know they are incredibly tough animals but given the severity of the injury I don’t see a way this deer could possibly survive. My buddy thinks the injury was possibly caused by a Mountain Lion. I really don’t think a Mountain lion could do this much damage and have the deer escape from it. I think its possibly the injury may have been caused by being caught in farm harvest equipment. I’ve seen a few different picture of deer caught in a farm machinery and think this injury may be caused by that.

Whoa. That is graphic. I don’t think its a predator attack. The wound is too “cleanly” cut from the hide for that. I would say agriculture equipment too. Amazing that deer can still walk around like it is.

    Dandy buck too.

Combine I’m guessing. That has to be a dead deer (I hope for his sake).

I would agree, looks like he may have been bedded down in a cornfield when a combine came upon him. Graphic for sure.

Wonder if the driver of the combine watched him run off and how he/she reacted?

The strange thing is that it seems to be moving OK. I would guess that infection would end up setting in at some point. I hope some hunter takes this great deer and takes it out of what is likely some pain and suffering.

PETA – Would that be the People Eating Tasty Animals? Only PETA group I’m aware of.

I’m constantly amazed at how tough animals are. If anything close to that happened to a person they would be long gone within minutes.

    Deer run into things fast.
I’ll bet some stationary object, like fence.

    Pretty neat.

PETA will be lobbying for deer guards on farm equipment.

That big of hole in an animal there should be blood running down the side of his body which makes it hard to believe this video

Flesh eating bacteria, rare but it’s out there I believe.

This year I’m going with a F’in zombie deer. Why, bc this year that’s why.

CGI has certainly improved quite a bit in the last few years, but this imagery looks beyond even that capability.

Did you see the exposed shoulder blade? shock
