The DNR caught this fish while conducting spring electrofishing on the lake. It was 61.5 inches and estimated to weigh up to 75 pounds.

Possible world record muskie boated and released in Mille Lacs Lake

I know where I am headed soon after I pick up a bigger bump board. whistling

I am surprised that the DNR didn’t tag it for research.

Though this fish in definitely big, the story surrounding this fish is taking on some serious Fish TALES that is for sure. It has been circulating Social Media for months and NOW the story surfaces that it was DNR personnel when in fact it was Tribal shock fishermen who captured it during electro fishing.
Truth is it was never officially weighed and it was NOT measured either because they didnt have anything long enough to measure it since they were not going after muskies.
It has been commented that they truly believed it to be between 54 and 57 inches, not the 60 plus that is being reported now.
Still a giant, but there was actually a bigger one caught and released a couple years ago that would have crushed the state record. The pics of that fish dwarf this one and that is NOT an exaggeration.

In the Duluth News Tribune June 28th article, they say that he was a mille lacs band dnr aquaculture biologist. According to the article, the fish was measured, it just wasn’t weighed.
I don’t know how to do a link to that article otherwise I would.
Hard to say by pictures how big it really was, it was big that is for sure.
