Wondering if someone can help with my 1198c

I just bought a used 1198c graph and I’m currently using the thru hull transducer in my Skeeter WX. I have yet to install the SI transducer. My question is that it doesn’t seem to pick up fish, bait fish on the graph. Will it get better when I install me SI transducer? Do I need to install another 2D transducer? I have another graph hooked up to my front bow mount and it works great.

You’re not going to pick up weak signals like bait fish through the hull. Hook up the SI ducer under your jack plate and you’ll be good to go.

I question the ability to use the SI ducer in a “thru hull” to achieve side imagining.

” I have yet to install the SI transducer. My question is that it doesn’t seem to pick up fish, bait fish on the graph. Will it get better when I install me SI transducer? Do I need to install another 2D ” there is confusion in your question for me.

Let’s back up and look at the 2 things that need to be achieved.

The through hull will only function for 2d, and needs to be installed correctly. Location, location, location!. Also, the glass need to be sanded and clean when the puck is epoxied in. I run dual transducers on my boat and pick up nearly everything- including bait, debris, and fish.

Adding the “Y” cable enables the use of the si duper. Again, location, pitch, and no obstruction will give you best results. I have been running it this way since the 1197 was released. Works great. If you don’t get satisfactory results, I would first look at the workmanship of the installation.

Btw, I have a stepped transom, do my big ducer is out of the water at wot. But my through hull still gives me a reasonable signal reception at upper 50’s mph.

thanks for the info, I just purchased a 2014 skeeter and it has only a in-hull ducer. I didn’t have a chance to install the SI ducer yet and run it.

It just seems that the in-hull ducer doesn’t seem to pick up the fish as well as when I’m using my front graph with the bow mount. I have all the settings the same on the 2 graphs also.

Does the SI ducer have 2D built into it?

x2 on what Randy said. I just replaced a thru hull transducer in my 620 Ranger. First I cleaned the bilge area and let it dry. I then sanded it down and cleaned the sanded area with alcohol. I put some epoxy on the sanded area and the rest on the transducer and twisted it slightly on the portion that was sanded. I held it in place for about 5 minutes. It worked better than the original one installed by Ranger. I had to turn my sensitivity down on my Lowrance.

Just got my elect 1199, 999, 1198 networked together and cleaned up with a dedicated circuit to batt. I have a 2025 step trans with the SI trans on the top step. I get some water intference when I am doing a fast SI scan of a lake about 6mph. Start getting lines from bubbles. It has been suggested to move the trans to bottom step to get cleaner water. Where do you have your SI trans at and does anyone have theirs on the bottom step getting a cleaner signal. I get great displays at 4-5mph lose it at 6.
Next question is I do get way points shared but not navigation between these core units is that typ
    Thanks

My skeeter came equipped with an shoot thru 2d for both humminbird and Lowrance. I initially mounted my HDSI high like was suggested by nearly everyone. After having full speed SI on my Crestliner, I hated having the HDSI not able to read past 7 or 8 mph. I completely retooled my installation, so now I get full speed SI, DI, and marginal 2d. Between two 1100 series units and an ONIX 10, day in, day out, DI is the best at reading depth at speed. Seems odd,but I have pictures to prove it. Sometimes, the digital readout is incorrect, but the water column is just as good of an indicator of depth.

I don’t allow my units to talk to each other, so can’t help you on that waypoint issue

    thanks reddog
when you say retooled the HDSI location did you drop it down to the bottom step around the livewell intakes?? I get a SI image like yours on the bottom left, and was told the horizontal lines are from turbulent water ie air bubbles going across the trans. am I interpreting correctly the display?? I have my units to be able to move to the front and jig way points. I am waiting on the Ultrexw/ILink, was first told delv. in mid nov. now 18wks out, by cabelas. talked with MK and they told me that those units supposed to be in production jan. hopefully they mean jan. 17 not 18.

At the risk of taking this further from Jake’s questions….

Jake. You won’t know your units full potential until you mount the HDSI transducer. I did not like my glassed in transducer and disconnected it. It may have been ok, but at the time I was unhappy with the HDSI mounted safe. Once I got it to run in clear water, I did not need the glassed in.

Mann, what I did was to build some shimming brackets that mounts to the bottom of the step. Then I used a transducer shield and saver to mount the transducer to the shimming blocks. It’s fully adjustable, and works very well. I’ve got twin transducers for the 1198 and a single for the Onix.
