Just wondering how these three lakes are for fishing. With a new cabin on woman lake I will be making a lot of trips up there this summer and would love to get on some walleye. Any help much appreciated thx.

Clear water so night fishing and windy conditions is probably the best best.

The water is very clear, so often times low light conditions work the best. There are a number of sand bars in the middle of the lake, in the summer you’ll see boats out fishing those at sunset into the first hour of darkness. My go to is trolling with an SR-5. Sometimes its a lindy with minnow, leach or crawler. It’s a very good lake IMO, lots of species to fish for.

We rented a cabin on one of the lakes on that chain many years ago (I can’t even remember which one anymore) and I remember having some good luck trolling the deep open basins after dark with stick baits. In the heat of the summer, drive around until you mark schools of bait/bugs hatching and troll through them!

A lot of these clear lakes that are deep enough to hold cisco/tullibee can have a good night bite out in the middle of nowhere.

The lake has a pretty good stocking program. When I used to fish there, we always caught some fish.

As mentioned, clear lake. Fishing early and late into the evening are best. Pass on the summer daytime. Too much jet ski/water skiing. Trolling shad raps on shoreline breaks and weed lines. I tend to agree with a lot of what is written about stocked walleye and the tendency for them to relate to weeds. You may be lucky enough to get them right off your dock.

Woman Lake is actually nearing the end of a large Study of the effects of stocking vs. natural production as the lake has both. It has been historically stocked because it has one of the main state walleye egg stripping sites off the river on the NW side. They have reduced the replenishment of these stripped eggs at set levels to monitor what the effect is on the fish population to get a better understanding of fry stocking on all lakes. I think we are in year 8 or 9 of a 10 year study. A lot of people have been upset by the reduced put back into the lake since most all of the eggs/future fish go elsewhere. While not scientific by any means, I think there has been a decrease in fish population but it has not been as drastic as the 75%+/- reduction in restocked fry.

To the original post it is a wonderful lake with populations of Walleye, Pike into the 30’s, both smallmouth and largemouth, panfish, very few but big Muskies and I think the next State Record Rock Bass:)

Stayed on Girl Lake last August for a week, family time took up most of the week, but got out a few early mornings and a night trip. Like stated above, forget trying to fish during the day, recreational boaters everywhere. Couple middays the BIL and I found some super nice LMB DEEP in the lilys frogging. Very fun.

As far as eyes trolling the weedlines 15′ next to rock put out some before the sun came up, and lindying floater jigheads with a leech a tad deeper about an hour after, but then the boaters would push ya out. Lots of bait balls marked on the transitions of mud off the main points i went back and tried fishing one night to no success, but early yet in my tactics so perhaps a more experienced angler could have put fish in the boat.

That late in the year watch for the warmer bays of Woman and chiggers. Our cabin didnt have a beach so we sought out a sandy cove on Woman and the sand was all good, but of course I ventured down the shoreline casting and did catch a super nice SMB, but the lil buggers at the same time where it got weedier, and few other in my party. Really made for a crappy rest of week dealing with the bites. At the same time saw another boater moored up taking some pics of a very large eye they caught during the day to release.

Looks like you got some great info to go off of plumbob. I can’t wait to see the cabin and enjoy some bud lights pulling cranks with you.
