Now I have never fished Woman in July or August but I had a resort manager tell me that in July and August he would troll the shallow large mid-lake flats with a shallow diving crankbait. He usually did well and he waited for this time of the year to troll shallow.

I’ve spent a week on Woman Lake 3xs in the last 5 years in May. Usually bass and crappies moving shallow on warm days. Few northerns and couple perch. With the walleyes being a strictly night bite. Going to try mid Sept this year. Looked a small lakes around there. My boat is a 185 with a 115 & 9.9. Going to take my kayak this year and explore some of the smaller water around there. If it’s not happening there.

Good, I floated it this spring.
Tied it up to some trees.
Took about 15 minutes to get it in place and twist down the posts.

FYI- next weekend will be busy at the local ramps.
In Roosie only about 60% of the docks are in and maybe 5% of boats.

58.5 on the main lake last night. Walleye bite was virtually nonexistant after the morning with the blue bird skies. Gonna be a beautiful day out today, which doesn’t bode well for the fishing…

    THIS!!!

I was I Woman 18th thru 28th. Fished late afternoon, first day. Surface water was 62 caught 7 nice crappies shallow in about an hour. Next several days after a brief snow and 3 nights in the low 30’s. Surface temp was 55 crappies, gills and bass vacated the shallows for the rest of the week. After most of a week, the 22″ walleye I caught was the only one the resort owner had seen all week. There was said to be a walleye bite sometime between 10pm and 3 am. That one is going to happen without me. After it warmed up, we saw a skeeter hatch like I’ve never seen. Crappies were just showing back up in the shallows. I have picked up random perch here and there. Mostly small. Have heard there is a short window in the fall, but best perch bite is under the ice. Was going to take my kayak and hit some smaller lakes. But with the cooler weather. And just a couple weeks since covid, didn’t mess with it. Planning on going up in the fall. Plan to take it then. Got an atlas with the limited access lakes around there that warm up quicker in the spring and get less pressure. Love the lake, but she’s a tough nut to crack. Although reports from Leech and other lakes were similar.

I’m heading up on Friday! Very excited! I go back the Wednesday after labor day as well. Hoping to find some sunnies for my family from Utah to chase, then I will be out after the walleye.

I may be wrong. But I don’t believe the crappies and gills have spawned. I kept 6 crappies one day, and a couple to go with the walleye another day. Kept mostly the smaller males. But the deep hooked female I kept was still full of eggs. The males didn’t seem to be doing their thing yet. A few gills shallow before the cold front. But didn’t seem to have picked a spot yet.

That’s the 1 thing I haven’t consistently located up there is sunfish and perch.

Let me know how you do Dusty. Fishing was very slow for us but I was not the boat captain and he refused to fish shallower than 12 ft. We’d catch 1 or 2 moving onto the shallows and that was about it. Heading up again June 17th and hoping at that time 12ft is the sweet spot haha. At least I can always catch a buzz at the muni.

I can hammer the perch through the ice, but havent fished it open water much to target them. Also fun to go after tullibee. Those are a hoot to catch.

We’d always go to Broadwater for the sunnies. Girl was good for pannies and largies as well.

That little bay between Girl is usually good for sunnies. There is also a bay on the North side that has a narrow channel going into it. Got them in there too.

I’m too lazy to Google it, but with the launch next to fullstringer closed what’s the next best access? Bummer they filled that in, crap parking tho so I get it

Which access is that one? There is an access in Longville but the other much nicer access is on the West side about halfway between Longville and that old Supper Club.

The access that was in Longville is what I’m referring to being gone.

I always launch from the DNR accesses on the west side of Woman, but I’m pretty sure there’s a relatively new (and nice looking from when I drive by) launch right next to the campground in Longville to replace one next to Full Stringer.

We didn’t do a ton of fishing, but did find 6 walleye 1 night trolling after dark, couple of others during the day, found some nice sunnies shallow. Heading back up to thunder lake on the 26th. Never been there, but looks nice.

Never fished Thunder even though it is just up the road from Roosie.
Always hear good things, plenty of structure, good size eyes, low fishing pressure, beautiful lake!

Got a 26″er off the dock a couple weeks ago, but the pressure is on this weekend.
Iowaboy1 and sparklesonwater are swinging on thru on their way up to Bemidji and I need to put them on the hot bullhead bite. wink rotflol
