Got out yesterday for what I was hoping to be a 3-4 hour excursion, however; Gavin, my son being 3 last 2 hours. It was great to get out and can’t wait to get my trailer unburied to bring the wheeler. So on the way out he walked and tried to help pull the loaded down otter sled, it was great. Then we found the spot I had been wanting to try and found a spot, somewhat, away from the crowds.
I went out on Owasso and found the slush was completely froze so no dropping through which was nice. There was about 3″ of frozen slush on top of 8 – 9″ of good ice where I was. There were wheelers and sleds out there with no issues at all. One other thing to mention is there was minimal snow on the main lake, along shore some, but the main lakes snow had blown off for the most part.
I set up on an outside turn that climbed from 29′ to 18′ and set up in the 19-21′ range. There were fish on the flasher almost the entire time and I missed 3 in the first 30minutes, because, well I set the hook with ZERO finnese. Then right when the sun was passing the trees the walleyes were roaming, nothing bigger then 13″ so all lived to grow up, but caught 5 and was able to get one picture while multi-tasking.
Here are some pics I got from my first outing with my son in 2010. The fished I missed were on a perch gill pill with Eurolarva and the eyes came on a perch glow forage minnow with a minnow head.
