Got out on a new east metro lake on Sunday with some surprising results. Drilled Holes from 5 ft to 15 ft of water and did some hole hopping with the flasher. Found most of my fish to be in 10ft of water so I set up the camera. I was amazed by the schools of sunfish roaming the flats, had to sort a bit but I was able to find some nice size fish.

Then they instantly shut off, swimming off into the distance as if they were startled. Sure enough here comes a big pike onto the camera screen. In the next 10 minutes I saw 6 different pike, one who stared directly at the camera as if to say “Your on my turf, get out of here”. Still Jigging with my ultralight rod one pike came in from off screen and just smacked my small lure. A long battle ensued but I was able to bring him up the hole. Very Health fish.

Not a minute after he went back down the whole a large-mouth came swimming by. He had a different approach, came up nosed the bait a bit then opened his mouth just enough to get a taste. With a set of the hook it was game on again. I now completely agree with James’ statement in the latest IDO TV episode about bass running sideways under the ice. He got all tangled up in my camera cord 6 ft to the right. I was able to get him out. Snap a few pics and get him on his way. Definitely the most work my ultralight rod has had in a while! After seeing all the pike and bass, I’m thinking this may be a great lake to tip up fish next time.

I think those are the Frabill fish handling gloves there.

Actually I think its a Ice Armor glove from clam. I have the same ones and have done the same thing once or twice to prove a point to my buddies.
