A few friends want to get together and try for walleye on a southern Metro Lake. Does anyone have a good idea of what lakes would be a good place to start? Thanks for the help

    Hello,
Depends on what you consider south metro. My # 1 recomendation is fish lake in scott county its a smaller lake and its loaded with walleyes of several year classes, I’m actually camping there this weekend with a buddy to do some walleye fishing, another recomendation is whitebear lake it can be a pretty busy lake but the walleyes action can be good, another lake worth a try is bone lake by scandia lots of walleyes in that lake to. Hope this helps.

    Take care!

My friend has been there and has a lot of luck on pannies on the northeast corner. What do you use for the walleyes or what should we be looking for.

    Thanks

This year caught most of my fish slip bobbering with leechs in 12 ft of water on the the outside of the weedlines, but also caught them draging lindys with live bait leechs or crawlers and trolling original raplas right by the weeds after dark in 7 to 10 ft. Caught a 28 last fall dragging spinners gold and silver I’ve had the best luck with. Good luck!

Thanks. We’ll be heading there end of this month. If we can’t find walleyes at least we know we can always catch a few crappies of sunnies

    Welcome to IDO,

If you havn’t used it, the dnr web site is a good source for a lake map, and also info on the latest lake survey.

    http://www.dnr.state.mn.us

on the left side, click on lake finder,
then type in the lake name and county.

the surveys are done about every 4 years or so, and can give you a good starting point on what each lake has to offer in species types and sizes.
    good luck,
    Jack

DNR link in Jack’s reply is good start for info on
volunteer opportunities at MN State Fair.
