Spent Memorial Day with my wife (Tara) and son (Jack) on the water chasing down whatever decided to bite. We hit Coon Lake and we were definitely not alone… a TON of people out there! Took us quite a while to get the boat in the water and even longer waiting in line trying to pull the boat out. Tara and Jack didn’t mind because they just played in the water while I did all the work
We caught a few bass and pike as well as a ton of little sunfish. Jack got to see his first open water bass and pike and I even got him to pose for a quick picture…
All of the bass came on slugs up along the inside weed lines and around the docks. Largest bass was about 19-inches and none of the pike even topped 3 pounds pounds. The pike all came on spinnerbaits out in 4-8 feet of water.
Jack and Tara loaded up on the sunfish with CrappieTom jigs rigged with Gulp! Alive 1-inch Minnows and Mister Twister 1-inch twister tails under a float. Jack had the hot-hand once again on the panfish!
Overall a great day to be on the water and shaping up to be another excellent week! Next weekend we’re off to Wisconsin to see if the bass and panfish want to play out there too…
