Got out tonight around 6:30 and fished till 9:00. Usually the bite on this lake seems to die off once it gets dark but I decided to give it a shot anyway. Earlier this week i had asked about Walleyes on plastics, got a couple tips, and decided to give it a try. The first holes I drilled were in 20+ feet of water on a steep shoreline break, instantly I was greeted with suspended fish showing up on the Marcum. Knowing they were Crappies I spent about a half hour or so jigging for them and ended up with 12 fish in the 8″-11″ range, all caught on black shrimpos with a glow Diamond jig. The bite ended up slowing down and I switched tactics and moved shallower on this steep break near a point and marked a few fish on the bottom in 14 feet of water. I’ve never caught a Walleye on this particular lake but figured maybe, just maybe these bottom huggers were in fact Wallleyes. As an experiment I rigged up a purple with white tail Ringworm shortened down to less than two inches on an H20 precision jig (Pool 2 favorite)…..and ended up landing two decent Walleyes. One fish about 17″ absolutely inhaled it on the initial drop making me think I was pretty cool and on to something new. My newfound plastic ego was short lived as I only ended up with one other smaller finicky fish over an hour later. All in all I must say I’m pretty happy as these are the first metro Walleyes I’ve caught while actually targeting them. All were released to fight another day.

Cool report. Nice job thinking out of the box for presentation. Might have to try that 1/2 ringworm for walleyes.
