Got out yesterday to chase crappies on a smaller lake that has a daytime crappie bite. Took some drilling to locate the fish. The crappies were already suspended at 10 to 15ft in the 30ft of water. Had to drill a lot of holes and stay mobile as the fish were moving. Live bait day also – plastics produced nothing. Very finicky bite. Most of my fish were caught by watching for the slightest rise in my spring bobber. Orange colored tear drop was the lure of choice with a minnow hooked just behind the dorsal fin. Ended the day with a nice bunch of 9 to 11 inch crappies and some bonus perch and gills. Fireline crystal also aided a ton in hooking up. It was a pain to deal with the iceing up but I caught zero fish with an identical setup using mono.
