I spent a few hours tonight out doing a little fishing and filming with Matt Grow on Pelican and wanted to throw a “hold up” to guys driving trucks out on this lake. Bob Bowman was out punching holes and found spots with as little as 6″ of ice. And full sized pickups were out driving around.

Someone’s going swimming if they’re not careful. I don’t know this particularly lake well at all, in fact it was my first time on the lake. I do know that extended cab Chevys and 6″ of ice don’t play well together. So use caution and give some thought to waiting a little while longer before taking the grocery getter out on the ice.

As for the bite, it was slow. Lots of lookers but few takers. Bob stuck a 9.75″ bluegill for the big fish of the night but that was about it.

Things should get real interesting if we get the 12+” the forecast is calling for over the next couple days.

James you should keep filming out there for the rest of the week. And keep us updated on the bite. I think I’m heading out to Pelican next week.

    Thanks for the heads up!

Oddly I wasn’t filming a bluegill show. This was a totally different project altogether… I didn’t even have a rod, flasher or auger along with me. But Bob Bowman had the skinny on the bite and let Matt and I fish in some of his extra holes. And it sounds like those two might make it back out again tomorrow so maybe, just maybe, you’ll see another update in the next day or two.

Some putts goes through every year out there, thankfully its shallow and no one has died yet Wonder what these guys are thinking, its a great lake with huge big fish potential but the ducks have taken priority

If we get the 12+ inches of snow that they are predicting – we will have problematic ice the rest of the winter. It will be tough to make more ice under that fluffy insulation layer.
