We’ve all heard about White Bear Lake being very low. Keep in mind that the other lakes in the area are suffering too. Friday morning I headed out early to my favorite “East Metro Bass lake”….DeMontreville. The good news is that somebody got rid of that pile of class 5 at the end of the dock. The bad news is that the lake is terribly low. I’ve never seen this lake look like this. Some of you may be familiar with the channel between DeMontreville and Olson Lakes. You used to be able to putt through there with the big motor. Not any more. The DNR placed a sign in this channel to remind people that both lakes have a C&R reguilation on all Bass. The red arrow in the picture shows where the water line USED to be, about three feet above where it is now. Boy do we need rain and snow….

The topwater bite continues although it was short lived. The Bass were hitting along the edge of the weedline at first light. I had a very frantic 1/2 hour topped by a 19 inch fish and then it was pretty much over for the morning.

It was tough enough to go through there before. Now a canoe would be tough huh. Lots of my little lakes I hit now do not even have fish because they are dead. We need the rain bad but many of my spots I have worked hard to find are gone.
