Fished a couple of lakes in the west Metro and the story is the same. Crappies are suspending in the basins and are willing to bite. You can easily catch a mess of the typical 8″ or so size in no time. Saturday I got 30 or so and I didn’t fish the prime evening hour. Ratsos (my standby) did not attract too much attention. Switching to a tail hooked minnow and a Demon jig was just what the crappies wanted. Lots of fun. Look for the deepest basin in the area, pop holes until you mark suspended fish and it’s game on. Sat for example I was in 30ft of water and the crappies were suspending in 18 to 24 ft. Dropped jig down 2ft above the school. A few twitches and an aggressive crappie would zoom up and snatch the jig.
