The goal this past weekend was to catch muskies, see muskies and attempt to catch muskies. A little bit of all the above was the case with an added bonus or two.

Saturday we missed three and I boated a little one 35.5″ inches or so. The bonus for myself was the 20-1/4″ largemouth.

Sunday greeted us with heavy fog and more boating/fishing pressure. Air temps had dropped over night and the shallows showed temperatures dropped a few degrees. Just didn’t have the wind and chop we would have liked. The pike though were on fire over the weeds earlier in the morning.

Best part of the day happened as follows:

I here an explosion at boat side, I am then instructed to get the net, so I am thinking here we go, muskie time! Not so fast, while jumping around the boat to get the Frabill, I here, walleye!! As I am locking the yoke in I see this beauty of a walleye barely hooked on the last treble on the surface. A quick scoop of the net was then followed up by a quick high five and laughter.

The bonus for my boat partner came in the form of a 29-1/4″ walleye on a 9″ twitch bait at 1p.m. no less with the sun shining in 5 feet of water just as he is about to go into the figure eight. Makes you rethink shadraps and the such. Throw out the rule book on this one.

It wasn’t quite the action we had hoped for but the hint of fall weather and fall color, throw in a couple nice bonus fish species and lots of laughs and hot coffee with a good friend and it adds up to a successful weekend of fishing.
