Crappie fishing is spotty at best for most people on Tonka lately. The fishing has been about as consistent as the weather. When you do find the fish, the bite is very finicky and light, so much so its very easy to assume its not the fish your looking for that is nibbling at your bait.

Some crappies are in the shallows, while some still seem to be hovering on the deeper breaks. Jig color is very important as the fish are definitely taking preference to one color combination on any given day. Pink and white seems to be the most productive on the average, a crappie minnow or wax worm is a must so far.

I have found temps as high as 52 degrees in the backwaters while most of the main lake is in the low-mid 40’s.

I suspect a good panfish bite is yet to come, but may be short lived depending on the weather.

    Its a strange year!
