Here is a good one for you guys to think about. I have beebn fishing the river all year with mild success on the BFL( finnished 48th end of year) Now I have returned my focus to lkes for this fall. The fish seemed to be moving up on the flats on the river and I am wondering what is going on with the lakes right now. Believe it or not I have not had any succuess fishing the milfoil on tonka!!! I have flipped in it, fished the deep edges and have caught a LOT of 2 pounders. These are not tourney winning fish. What could I be doing wrong? I have found areas with deep water access nad also flats and I can not catch anythi8ng over 2 pounds. I feel I have failed as a fisherman onb tonka. Anybody want to go out on tonka and fish? I have a Skeeter and it will more the do the job for us. My confisdence has sunk to a all time low I think I just need to re-figure out fishing.

The bass are doing many of the same things as it sounds like there are doing on the rivers. On Tonka they seem to make a pilgrimage shallow. The docks, areas between docks, shallow flats and channels all are good areas for fall. This is the time of the year I have my best luck on topwater as well. My deep milfoil spots haven’t put out the size fish they were earlier either. There are some still out there, but I switch to cranks. Make sure the deep weeds you are fishing are still green. Remember, fall is a time of transition. The fish are still there, its just a matter of finding them. Good luck.

i know in the fall, i have better luck shallow on a sunny day. almost like you were fishing in the heat of the summer. But i am looking at structure that is around 6 to 8 foot deep. I have pulled many 2 pouners out myself with the occasional lunker. So i think that if you can weed through them little ones, the big ones are not far behind.
