Hit the ice at 5am. Found 7-8″ of ice, with a few slush pockets…had to banzai through them! Fished 16′ of water using a 1/16 gold forage minnow tipped with a minnow head was the ticket, other colors they’d take a look and scatter. Pulled about 5 eyes in the 12-14″ range, released. Caught about 10 crappies in the 8-10″ range, they hit hard, frenzy for 15 minutes then they disappeared, released. One 5lb pike and a handful of perch, released. Fished lake one from 5am-830am. Moved on to lake two, was fishing by 9, fished till 1030. Found 5-7″ of ice. Tried a 14′ flat surrounded by deeper water 20′, nothing was going on the edges or the deep side. Moved up on top to 14′ Pulled a few perch and about 6 gills, 2 of which were nice bulls!! My go to bait for this lake was a pink/white rat finke #12 tipped with a waxie. All the fish I caught this morning were released.
