    Ok, first timer.

I’ll assume you know it’s electric T-motors only. So, an extra 1 or 2 batteries is a plus. I’ll assume you are targeting eyes but will be happy to have a smb or hammer handle pull the line too.

With the rain lately, I’d focus on the “flow” areas. The bridge under the road at the access, Larpenter pipe, creek by the public dock and the pipe just north of the beach. Pitch jig/minnows or jig/slip bobber. If you can’t fish those areas due to shore fishermen, drop jig/slip bobbers into the weeds….. Dam…. I guess I assumed you would be in a boat too!

Sorry I guess I forgot to mention, I will be in a boat, with a friend who has fished it a few time, unsecessfully, and thought I would go out there and give it a try with him. Just with a little bit more knowledge. Definitley targeting Eye’s and hammerhandles, if I got a SMB I wouldn’t mind that either.

Thanks for the advice Jon I will give a full update afterwards to let you know what we did, along with what did and did not work.

I live about 3 miles from the lake. For a few years there I fished it a lot, it was like a puzzle I needed to figure out.

Here is something to keep in the back of your mind when fishing Phalen. It’s a bowl. Take 5-6 steps out from most of the shorline and it get’s deep quick. All of the eyes are stocked. Virtually zero natual reproduction. All of those eyes get dumped in as fry and fingerlings. The small fish that survive are weed fish. The roamers get ate! The eyes in Phalen (and a lot of stocked metro lakes) survive more like panfish then anything else! Fish the weed pockets, move around and you will pick off a fish here and there. It has alwasy been a lake where you bag a bunch or get skunked trying! Good luck.

ps. if there is not a good flow of water out of the pipes, don’t give it too long, just a place to check…..

What a day for fishing Phalen, water was like glass, oh and not one other boat on the lake The walleyes either had lock jaw, or just wanted nothing to do with me. The pike on the other hand was a pretty good bite 20″,21″,24″,26″, and a few good size bass. One of which we thought by the way it was pealing my line off and fighting that it was going to be a good size pike. all the sudden this small little 2 pound bass, with a lot of fight in him, surfaces right on the side of the boat. over all though it was a good night now THERE ARE NO FISH IN THIS LAKE AND THEY WERE NOT BITING!

Thanks for all the help guys, That lake is like a puzzle and I’m already looking forward to next week, and putting together a new game plan.
