Bald Eagle Report – Sunrise until 11:00AM. Light rain.

Went out to flip jigs into 10 feet of emergent vegetation only to get sidetracked throwing deep diving crankbaits. Walleye this morning 5:45 AM was the only Quality fish. The walleye left his toothmark in the top of a light striped Firetiger crank. The same crank yielded me 9 pike in cold front conditions.. Hmmm, maybe this crank is tuned up & wobbling good. I have 2 other ones just like it yet to be thrown. I will pull the other 2 out & try to tune them alike. Tip of the day: Buy cranks in Quantities of 3. Throw all 3 equally to see how they run in the water. Tune them alike so if you lose one your not shucks out of luck. If your new to cranks and would like help tuning them.. Feel free to hit me with a PM.

Caught several largemouths all in the small 8-10 inch category. If your interested in fun fishing or bringing the kids out for action, the north side of the lake is productive. I was trying to work on throwing a Pop-R style bait so any size fish was appreciated. It let’s me know I must be doing something right.

Halfway through my outing I was joined by my brother. Even though I am becoming more interested in deeper structure fishing, I took time to introduce him to a topwater Scum Frog over large patches of lily pads. He had several swirls to the bait. A few bass looked like they we’re trying to suck the bait off the top to no avail.

Even with the weather the way it was, it was a great day fishing. Rain gear required. Traffic was minimal.

P.S. I never found the emergent vegetation in deeper water I was looking for so if anyone has suggestions, please let me know

I haven’t been out on Bald Eagle yet this year but have fished it a lot in the past and due to the water clarity and efforts to minimize the effects of the milfoil the emergent weedline sets up in 4-5 feet most years. Much deeper than that and you won’t get “emergent vegitation”. There are still weeds down there in 6-10 feet of water but they will rarely reach the surface. Just my 2 cents
