And it only takes him 1 1/2 hours with a #5 shad rap!
We headed out this evening for a quick, last minute trip to one of the Minneapolis lakes with hopes to catch a quick walleye before bedtime.
It didnt take Tyler long to get into some action as we were only pulling the shad raps for 10 minutes when he caught his 1st fish of the evening… but I will tell you about that fish last!
After landing his 1st fish, we made it about 75 yards down the shoreline as the sun was sinking into the trees and he had fish #2 attatched to the end of his line, a respectable 15.5″ walleye.
With the daylight quickly diminishing, we decided to make one last pass down the shoreline past the boat access, and we would make a U-turn and fish back to get our vehical befre the 10pm deadline as the park police were ready to hand out tickets as usual. The plan was sound, but before we know it, we barely made it past the access and wouldnt you know it.. Tyler had another fish on! This time it was obviously a bass as it was launching out of the water non stop.. much to my surprise it was a smallmouth better than 20″ long, easily topping 4# which decided to jump at my face when I was attempting to land the fish and unhookeditself on the edge of the boat.. so no pictures of that one, but its was a caught fish.
Normally I would have been jumping for joy if my 6 year old son had caught a huge smallmouth like that… but it was really hard to get that exited about the fish for him, ad it didnt seem that significant to myself at the time..
Keep in mind Tyler is 6 years old. He is 47″ tall, and weighs 44 pounds.
Here is his 1st fish of the night on the trusty shad rap. appologize the picture isnt the greatest, but he will never forget this fish. It also created plenty of anarchy in the boat as it had a spaz attack throwing the fishing rod out of the boat like a spear! The rod was recovered to boot.
43″ and some change(almost 44″), I didnt get a girth or weight, but it was a very thick Tiger Musky(Not pure strain). It likely weighed 22#-24#. It swam away to fight again another day.
I am a very proud father tonight.. this adds new meaning to *once in a blue moon*. Tyler was in shock.. but beyond happy when he came back to reality.
Congrats Tyler!
