Just a quick update on the bite around the cities. The walleyes have been biting pretty good all over the place, they seem to be pushing into heshallows in the late afternoon and evening hours. Casting cranks, jigs, and live bait rigs are all working. Quite a few pike have also been showing up in the recent days compared to usual. The bass(males) are very active and hard to get away from at times, I havent seen anything larger than 14″ recently, nor am I targeting them(out of season).

Find the cabbage weeds and you have likely found some fish. The milfoil is not out of control yet, these next couple weeks are often te best fishing of the year.

    Good luck everyone.

Nice report David. I am planning on coming up to do some shore fishing on the chain of lakes Sunday morning. Any advice on which lake to fish and what depths to concentrate on? Thanks!

What depths to concentrate on depend on the lake.. especially in shore fishing. We can only cast so far. Calhoun and Isles provide some decent shore fishing if you dont mind walking the shore tossing lures. Bass and muskies are pretty easy to find with the occasional pike. Some areas of Calhoun offer good walleye fishing from shore in the shallows in the evening hours, as does lake Nokomis just about everywhere if you can tolerate fighting off bullheads. Sometimes the docks are productive, other times not, and the fish usually run smaller where there are concentrations of people.

Fished on Calhoun today for the first time from 1-630. Got some great help from David Scott.

Ended up catching about 30 bass, 1 tiger muskie, 1 crappie, and 1 sunfish.
The fish came on the inside/outside weed edges in 4-8 feet of water. I caught fish on a variety of baits (spinnerbaits, cranks, rattle traps, senkos, and drop shot) but had by far the best results fishing the drop shot. The biggest bass that I caught was ~3 lounds. The tiger muskie was rough 38 inches but was very thick. I am guessing close to 12 pounds. I also saw another 4 that we in the low 40’s.

I have never fished Calhoun before but will soon be visiting it much more often.
    Thanks again for the help!

I’m surprised you didnt get into more big bass.. but it sounds like you had a lot of action regardless! Females just arent bitng yet?

Those muskies will keep you on your toes in all the city lakes.

Its nice to have good lakes to fish without having to go too far from home.
