    After this kooky spell of weather and terribly slow fishing so far this spring I’m pleased to announce that the carp are finally turning on. A couple friends and I fished a little honey hole last night and managed 12 carp between 2Lbs-7Lbs. The fishing went from slow, fast and furious, to just average in the two hours or so we fished. We did manage two doubles though…fun to finally see some action. We were fishing a small river system just above a wintering area. Last night was a test run to see if another very similar area I like to fish for very large fish would be productive yet. I’ll be hitting it on Saturday and a full report should follow. Now, all we have to do is wait for the Flathead bite to start and the open water nether species fishin’ season is on!(hopefully within the next few weeks if the weather holds).

    Hey Jeremy;
    When you want to chase 30+lb carp, let me know. My brother works at one of the major grain terminals in the metro area. I grew up as a kid fishing carp all day long in the summer. These fish average from 5 to 25lbs. Catch them all day long!

    Yep, I caught a few on Tonka last weekend when I was crappie fishing. There was one small bay I checked out that was loaded with active carp. They were jumping all over and the shallow water was very muddy so I knew the carp were rooting around in there. I caught them on a pink Ratso. I’ll bring the corn next trip. The redhorse are biting well on some of my favorite small river spots too. Should be a good weekend for some carpin’.

    I have the day off and may go out for an hour or so. We’ll see.

    I, too, may have to get to one of my favorite neighborhood spots for an hour or so with a big bag of corn and some crawlers.
